Springs, Screens, and Pizza Scenes: A Stopover in High Springs

📍Location: High Springs, Florida 🏕️Campground: High Springs RV Resort

Woken by the motivating sound of birdsong, we were ready to start our travel day—but first, the rig had other plans. A quick repair of a loose seal on the slide-out (welcome to RV life!) kept us grounded for a moment, but soon enough, we hitched up and left the island landscape behind.
The drive was a quiet three-hour cruise through Florida’s vast forests and meadows, punctuated only by the occasional lonely mailbox. It was uneventful—until we arrived. In classic camping fashion, the moment we pulled into High Springs RV Resort and started unhitching, the sky opened up. It rained cats and dogs for exactly 10 minutes—just long enough to soak us to the bone while we set up camp.
Small Town Charm & Plastic Cup Wine
Once dried off, we headed into High Springs (population: 6,000). The historic district is genuinely captivating, filled with charming boutiques where we couldn't resist buying some decorative pillows to spruce up Minnie’s interior.

Exhausted from the drive and the shopping, we stumbled upon a brewery right across the street. It was the perfect trap: a Caribbean food truck parked outside served us incredible chicken wings, washed down with fresh cider and beer. Still hungry? Always. We crossed the street to a local diner for two American-style pizzas. The experience was… unique. The grated cheese came in a bag, and the wine—interestingly from the country of Georgia, not the state—was served in a plastic cup. But you know what? The pizza was fresh, tasty, and exactly what we needed.

The Crystal Clear Highlight
Our campground, while a bit cramped, had one major advantage: its location. It is the gateway to the stunning natural springs of the area. We visited Ruth B. Kirby Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park and can absolutely recommend it!

The "Fercho" Project: Sweat & Wires
Speaking of heat… we decided it was time to tackle the broken dashboard screen in our truck, Fercho. The aftermarket Android screen was glitching, so we decided to swap it back to the original factory unit the previous owner had given us.

Armed with YouTube tutorials, AI advice, and plenty of optimism, we tore the dashboard apart in the sweltering heat. The result? Failure. The original screen didn't work either.
But we prefer to look at the bright side:
We learned exactly how to take our dashboard apart (a skill we didn't know we needed).
We successfully fixed the seat ventilation controls!
We improvised a sound system using our U-Boom music box.
Sometimes, "good enough" is a win. We’ll let a Ford garage handle the screen later.
A Sweet Ending
To cool down after our sweaty mechanic session, we hit a local gelateria. This visit turned into a rescue mission when we realized Liza’s wallet was missing the T-Mobile SIM card we had bought days earlier. We retraced our steps, and sure enough, a kind employee at the ice cream shop had found it and set it aside. Naturally, this was the perfect excuse to order a second round of gelato.
We ended the stopover by installing side mirror extensions on Fercho (safety first!) and enjoying a homemade pasta salad à la maison. High Springs gave us a mix of everything: technical challenges, beautiful nature, and small-town kindness.
Next Stop: Panama City Beach!
